Shark Dive

Are you ready for a thrilling dive with a group of Caribbean reef sharks?

Come with us to Waihuka Dive Center and let’s start this unique adventure. Upon arrival, you will need to set up your equipment and request weights, if needed. Once everyone is settled, the dive shop staff will provide a detailed briefing before departing from the dock. Boarding the Waihuka Dive boat, you will be asked to set your weight system and BCD before heading two miles offshore, about a 20-minute boat ride to the shark encounter site known as “Cara a Cara”.

The Dive staff will tie the boat to an underwater mooring, and you will be given a tagline of 40+ft to get to the descending line since the site has a mild to strong current. You will then descend down the line to a depth of 70ft. As you descend, you will already see some sharks swimming around in the area below you.

The dive starts in a stationary position on the sandy bottom, and the Divemaster will bring a bucket of frozen fish that will be closed at the beginning. Depending on the current, there may be an opportunity to swim with the sharks. Keep an eye out for the pristine coral, large barrel sponges, black groupers, and green moray eels. You may even spot some shark teeth in the sand, which could make a unique souvenir.

Once the swim with the sharks is complete, the Divemaster will ask you to return to the initial position, and they will open the bucket from a distance of 6ft/mts. Then, the Divemaster will feed the sharks, which is where the excitement begins as the sharks feed in their natural environment.

The sharks can measure 5ft to 7ft in length and have a lifespan of around 30 years. The maximum depth is 22mtrs/75ft, and the bottom time is 30-35 minutes.

Upon returning to the Waihuka dive shop after the dive, you can watch the video that the videographer filmed during your dive or use your own video or digital camera to capture your memories. However, Go Pro Cameras are not permitted, as per the Shark Dive Operator Policy.

Transport to and from the Shark Dive Operator is included, and tanks and weights are provided by the Shark Dive Operator.

You will then be required to set up your equipment and check it before leaving the dock.
